Seventh Sunday in the Great Lent : : Palm Sunday

Image Today is the seventh Sunday in the Great Lent and is known as “Hosanna Sunday” or “Palm Sunday”.

  •  The word “Hosanna” is Greek and is derived from the Hebrew word “Ho-sha-a-nan” which means “Save us”.  It is the word that the Jewish multitude said in welcoming Our Lord Jesus Christ as King during His entry to Jerusalem.

    Sayings of the Desert
Why did God become man? Why did God become man? For if a king, having founded a house or city, if it be beset by bandits from the carelessness of its inmates, does not by any means neglect it, but avenges and reclaims it as his own work, having regard not to the carelessness of the inhabitants, but to what beseems himself; much more did God the Word of the all-good Father not neglect the race of men, His work, going to corruption:
    The Great Fast
First Sunday in the Great Lent :: Treasures Sunday First Sunday in the Great Lent :: Treasures Sunday Today is the first Sunday in the Great Lent and is known as Treasure Sunday. Today’s Liturgy reading is from the Gospel according to St Matthew (6:19 - 33). Our Lord for Him is the Glory says: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” (Matthew 6: 19, 20)

I would like to talk about “treasures in heaven”

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth because it is subject to loss and is not everlasting. Furthermore, we won’t take these treasures with us when we depart from this life to eternal life.

We should always remember the saying of Job the righteous “Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked shall I return there.” (Job 1:20)

    Bible Study
    Psalm 151 Psalm 151

To the traditional Hebrew Psalter, the Septuagint (LXX) adds Ps 151, with a superscript describing it as "outside the number" (i.e., of the 150 Psalms); this is the basis of the NRSV translation. It is found in the fourth-century CE Greek Codex Sinaiticus with a different superscription and in the sixth-century Codex Alexandrius (with a superscription, "The 151 Psalms of David"). In Syriac, Ps 151 is is the first of a series of psalms (Ps 151-155) about the heroic exploits of David in 1 Sam 16-17.

    Comparative Theology
The Heresy Of Jehovah's Witnesses The Heresy Of Jehovah's Witnesses

Introduction: Jehovah’s Witnesses are not Christians. Although they believe in the New Testament, it is their own incorrect translation that is misconstrued to suit their beliefs. They do not call themselves Christians, but ‘Jehovah’s Witnesses’ - ‘Jehovah’ being a name of God used in the Old Testament.

Their doctrine regarding the Lord Jesus Christ is completely different to the Christian doctrine; it is a mixture of the heresy of Arius, and other new heresies. They have even reached a level much worse than that of Arius by far.

Many governments have expelled Jehovah’s Witnesses from their countries because they sensed the danger which they {presented to the country’s general peace}. Therefore, {it can be said that} they do not only propagate false religious beliefs, but they also propagate dangerous political ideas.

    Spirituality
Till 10 o'clock Till 10 o'clock One of Father Pishoys spiritual children use to fast until 3pm everyday in the fast without food or water and one day he came to Father Pishoy and said, "I want to fast until 5pm". So Father Pishoy said, "No, keep it as it is". However this person became insistent and Father Pishoy sensing there was vain glory behind this fasting, said, "Tell you what, fast till 10am only." This surprised the person and he felt that fasting until 10am was not really a fast. Seeing that the person was disappointed Father Pishoy said to him, "or how about you dont fast at all?" This person fell silent and obeyed, fasting until 10am as ordered by his spiritual father.

    Great Friday Great Friday

“Why The Cross?” But if any honest Christian wants to know why He suffered death on the cross and not in some other way, we answer thus: in no other way was it expedient for us, indeed the Lord offered for our sakes the one death that was supremely good.

He had come to bear the curse that lay on us; and how could He “become a curse,” [Gal. 3:13] otherwise than by accepting the accursed death? And that death is the cross, for it is written, “Cursed is he that hangs on a tree.” [Gal. 3:13]

List of Coptic Orthodox Popes of Alexandria
Saint Mark the Evangelist Saint Mark the Evangelist On this day (Baramouda 30), which coincided with the 26th. of April 68 A.D., the great apostle St. Mark, the evangelist of the land of Egypt, was martyred. He was the first Pope of Alexandria and one of the Seventy Apostles. His name was John, as the Holy Bible says: "He came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying" (Acts 12:12). He was the one that the Lord Christ, to Whom is the glory, meant when He said: "Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, The Teacher says, My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples" (Matthew 26:18).

Annunciation of John the Baptist to Zacharias Annunciation of John the Baptist to Zacharias October 7, 2007 | Thoout 26, 1724

I would like first to make two important observations:

    • First observation: These verses narrate the birth of John the Baptist. The Coptic Orthodox Church through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, arranged for reading of these verses on the last Sunday before the Holy Nativity Feast, i.e., the fourth Sunday of Kiahk because the birth of John the Baptist was six month prior to the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ in flesh.
